For the Lord’s Day 10.23.16

Dear Covenant Church Family,

“Trouble is often the only fire which will burn away the dross that clings to our hearts. Trouble is the pruning-knife which the great Husbandman employs in order to make us fruitful in good works. The harvest of the Lord’s field is seldom ripened by sunshine only. It must go through days of wind and rain and storm.”

J.C. Ryle, Holiness, Evangelical Press, Durham, England, 1993, pp. 194.

Dear Covenant Church Family,

James 1:17  “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights…”

“All that exists is God’s; whatever anyone possesses he has received from God…  If we receive something, we must receive it as out of the hand of God as being our Father.  We must be satisfied with that which the Father gives – be it much or little, it will be enough.  Therefore we ought not to waste it, but with a joyful heart make use of it.”

For the Lord’s Day 10.2.16

Dear Covenant Church Family,

I am continually amazed and humbled by God and His grace.  This God who first loved us by sending His only Son to come and give His life as a sacrifice for our sins.  I am a Sinner saved by grace.  How then could we not give our lives up for Him who first gave his up for us?  Jesus Himself said to his disciples and he says to us again today, “if anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.  For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it.” (Mark 8:34-35)

For the Lord’s Day 9.25.16

Dear Covenant Church Family,

We keep praying as Jesus taught us, “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”  Even then, we are sometimes not completely sure what to do next.  So keep praying… and keep waiting as long as you can.  But, when you have to make that move… make the best decision you can according to God’s Word and keep trusting that He will straighten your paths.  Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

For the Lord’s Day 9.4.16

Dear Covenant Church Family,

We have the great privilege this week of coming together as a church family around the table of the Lord.  At that table, we feast upon the grace of our God in the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.  There, we are reminded again of our Father’s great love for us in Christ Jesus.  He who sent His only Son into this fallen world to do for us what we could not do for ourselves.  The Lord Jesus lived a righteous and sinless life.  He fulfilled the holy law of God that we have so often and continuously broken.  He died the death we deserve.  Jesus shed His precious blood upon that cross outside of Jerusalem and we are reminded that without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins.  But, in Jesus Christ alone there is forgiveness and there is marvelous grace to cover all our sins.  So, let’s prepare ourselves to come again to feast upon God’s amazing grace in this sacrament as we proclaim His death until He comes again!!!
