Truth and Error (1 John 4:1-6)

Main Idea: Christians are led by the Spirit of God in discerning truth from error.

1. Christians Don’t Believe Everything (v 1)

2. Christians Ask Hard Questions (vv 2-3)

3. Christians Have Overcome False Teaching (vv 4-5)

4. Christians Believe the Bible (v 6)


Belief Commanded

1 John 3:23, And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. This command to believe goes out to all of humanity.  There are no options either!  God created us all and God has commanded us all to believe in the Jesus of Scripture.  Believe in this Jesus because there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. (see Acts 4:12) Believe in this Jesus because if you reject this Jesus you reject eternal life. John 3:16 says, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Thankful for God’s Blessings!

Find your Bible and read Colossians 1:12-14.  You will see that it is God the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints. What we must realize is that God alone has saved us.  We have not saved ourselves.  Salvation is of God alone and it is only by His grace that we are qualified for eternal life.  When you think of having to be qualified for something it means that there are conditions that must be met.  For example: Continue reading
