For the Lord’s Day 11.23.14

Dear Covenant Church Family,

I have heard it said that pride has to be at the root of all our sin.  It’s probably true because pride has to do with being consumed with ourselves.  We think we know better.  We think we perform better.  We think we deserve better.  And the list goes on.  And yet, there is a day coming when every man’s pride will be brought low.  That day when we all will have to stand before His throne and give an account of ourselves.  There will be no more room for pride on that day! Even for the wicked… for every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord.

Praise God that we have a Savior who humbles us.  Praise God that He opens our eyes to our pride and brings us low in this life so that we see our need for Jesus.  Praise God that He continues to show us how pride still has its root in our heart and gives us grace to repent.  Glory be to God!

Hymns for worship:

#302 Come, Christians, Join to Sing

When All Thy Mercies, O My God

Who Is This?

#246 Man of Sorrows! What a Name

Sermon Outline:

“True Greatness”

Matthew 20:17-28

Main Idea:  Greatness according to the kingdom of God turns the concept of greatness in this world on its head.

 1)  The Great Suffering Servant (vv 17-19)

 2)  We Covet Greatness (vv 20-21)

 3)  We Think We Deserve Greatness (vv 22-23)

 4)  But, Great Ones Love to Serve Others (vv 24-27)

 5)  And Finally, Jesus Is The Greatest (v 28)

May God Bless you,

For the Lord’s Day 11.16.2014

Dear Covenant Church Family,

This coming Lord’s Day Reverend John Rug will be preaching for us at our weekly worship service.  Rev. Rug has served as a missionary to Chile for about 30 years.  He is the founder of the Presbyterian Ministry Center which is a ministry especially for the blind, but also for many others who are ‘differently enabled.’  We might say that Rev. Rug is an expert in this field because he has been blind from birth.  Some of you may remember him from his visit here with us about a year ago.

By the way, if any of you are interested in joining me this evening I am planning on driving down to Brownsville for a lecture by Rev. Rug at Divine Providence Church.  It begins at 7 PM so let me know if you would like to go with me.  Or, if you would like to meet me there the address is 1175 W. Price Rd.
