For the Lord’s Day 4.3.16

Dear Covenant Church Family,

Our spiritual growth gets bogged down sometimes for various reasons.  Let’s be reminded that the Christian life is a marathon.  The race is long and sometimes hard.  But, God’s grace is always sufficient for the believer.  So, let’s prepare ourselves to come together again this Lord’s Day to worship and to be reminded to press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Hymns for Worship:

Let All Things Now Living

#485 O Thou That Hear’st When Sinners Cry (from Psalm 51)

#423 According to Thy Gracious Word

The Creed of Timothy (Nathan Clark George)

Sermon Outline:

“Pursuing the Prize”

Philippians 3:12-16

12 Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.  13Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.  15 Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.  16 Only let us hold true to what we have attained.

Main Idea:  God’s grace and mercy sets us on a lifelong pursuit to the see the Savior face to face.

 1)  Not There Yet

2)  Press On

3)  Forget What Lies Behind

4)  Strain Forward to What Lies Ahead

5)  Confident in Christ

6)  On to Maturity

May God bless you,

For the Lord’s Day 3.6.16

Dear Covenant Church Family,

We have the great privilege this week of coming together as a church family around the table of the Lord.  At that table, we feast upon the grace of our God in the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.  There, we are reminded again of our Father’s great love for us in Christ Jesus.  He who sent His only Son into this fallen world to do for us what we could not do for ourselves.  The Lord Jesus lived a righteous and sinless life.  He fulfilled the holy law of God that we have so often and continuously broken.  He died the death we deserve.  Jesus shed His precious blood upon that cross outside of Jerusalem and we are reminded that without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins.  But, in Jesus Christ alone there is forgiveness and there is marvelous grace to cover all our sins.  So, let’s prepare ourselves to come again to feast upon God’s amazing grace in this sacrament as we proclaim His death until He comes again!!!
